We are now in the stage of researching these ideas. Very soon, a book that will be related to this project will be published and will be available at bookstores nationwide. The book will be written by Robert Metz, former financial writer for the "New York Times", Carol Coles and Don Mitchell. The main purpose of the book is to encourage people to help us with the project and create a climate conducive for this pursuit.
We want people to change the way they think about the rate of progress and destroy ideas of progress as slow and evolutionary so no one will ever think that way again. This applies to the concept of reducing the gap between the lowest and highest performer and between the current highest and theoretically best possible performance or practice. Things can grow at a faster rate if we can be more efficient and eliminate stalls to progress. When we change existing ways we think about progress and demonstrate to others why this is important, we can make truly significant strides.
The book is only part of a much wider research aim of the project discussed above. It will look more in depth at a number of important Civilization Stalls and connect them to current stalls that most companies face in their day to day operations. The book will present a variety of ways for managers to think about their businesses and help people better understand the nature of this project.
The book will accessible to executive and lay person alike. It is meant to raise more questions than it answers; stimulate rather than satisfy our curiosities. Moreover, it will motivate people to look more critically at their own organizations and apply our concepts and examples to them.
